We set out to film factory trawlers around Aotearoa.
Our project is to film destructive fishing practices around Aotearoa. We're a small misfit crew of writers, sailors, photographers and ex-trawler workers. We hope these voyages will connect people to what's happening at sea. To bring what's out of sight and out of mind into our sights and into our hearts.
Much of the fishing activity we intend to film is legal, but those laws don't work for the ocean, or those who live in it. Companies are destroying precious living worlds around these islands, our trips are a tribute to lost habitats. We hope the footage we collect will support the work of groups calling for an end to destructive fishing methods, and a better relationship with the ocean. This project is for the fish and their homes. San Discovery - Sanford vessel - 64m, bottom trawling on Puysegur Bank - 18/9/2021 |
